SAGE Group's Skills Lab diploma of applied technologies enabling South Australians to meet Industry 4.0 needs
Industry 4.0 skills in connected technology and big data are critical to the next generation of advanced manufacturing.

South Australia’s SAGE Group has launched a course in 2020 to upskill the state’s workforce to meet the demands of Industry 4.0.

Skills Lab, a SAGE Group high-quality technology training division, will make South Australia the first state to deliver nationally accredited diploma of applied technologies to meet the Industry 4.0 demands. The diploma would enable industry to harness the benefits of connected technology and big data by helping its employees to develop highly-sought skills within Australia.

The diploma would be delivered over one to three years and will provide graduates with hands-on experience and a qualification recognised by industry. It would draw on the field expertise of trainers to ensure the content is appropriate for industry. The course was also billed as having strong focus on communication skills, encouraging students to collaborate across teams to find digital solutions for issues across engineering design and manufacturing, maintenance and security.

Skills Lab has partnered with peak industry association the Australian Industry Group as well as TAFE (technical and further education) to deliver the project.

Flinders University professor in innovation Giselle Rampersad said the university would partner the course in the future. She said developing skills to use new and emerging technologies was critical to Australia’s “next generation of manufacturing”.

Flinders University’s international connections with advanced manufacturing and future factories helped them support small and medium enterprises and the growth of advanced manufacturing. “Apprentices doing this diploma will benefit from the industry connections, cutting-edge research and global insights Flinders provides,” she said.
