The BGIS Adelaide remote command centre was modelled on its Toronto operations.
Canadian building management company BGIS expanded its Adelaide-based remote command centre to new state of the art in 2021 to monitor the plant operations of business clients across the Asia-Pacific region.
The global company was useing the latest Internet of Things technologies in Adelaide to remotely control buildings in other states and countries through internet-connected devices and sensors. This included monitoring and activating lights, sensors, security alarms, fridges and airconditioning.
Headquartered in Toronto, BGIS had more than 8000 employees across the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and in Asia and managesd 30,000 client locations across the globe including corporate offices, retail sites, universities, schools, hospitals, stadiums, institutions, military bases, remote townships, warehouses and data centres.
In South Australia, BGIS delivered integrated plant management and real estate services for clients including SA Water, SA Power Networks, Optus, BAE Systems, BP and BAE.
BGIS opened its Adelaide city office in 2009 as a small helpdesk and expanded into a 24/7 knowledge centre that serviced clients across Australia. The Adelaide office also was a centralised service delivery hub for the company’s defence industries business, including the federal defence department and private companies. It also provided financial shared services for the Asia Pacific business.
BGIS's capacity to closely and remotely monitor many devices allowed it to help optimise clients’ operations by tracking energy use across multiple sites to improve energy efficiency and reduce waste. Information gathered through smarter monitoring allows clients with multiple retail sites to monitor foot traffic and movement at their best-performing sites and replicate the layout at all their stores.
