Adelaide Oval, widely regarded as one of the most picturesque sporting grounds in the world with its history back to 1871, offered an extra dimension to visitors from 2014 in its blended stadium tours.
Adelaide Oval stadium tours were offered in a range of forms, from bespoke, group to children’s. Expert tour ambassadors shared tales of the venue’s history, the sporting greats to have competed there, how the iconic heritage blended with world-class modern features, and the oval’s iconic status in South Australia.
Experiences offered on the tours include recreating running onto Adelaide Oval to the roar of a 50,000-strong crowd, climbing the stairs to the 100-plus-year-old heritage-listed scoreboard or gaining an insight into match-day preparations inside the players’ changerooms. Among the tailored offerings are cricket tours going behind the scenes of the ground where cricketing greats like Bradman, Tendulkar, Hobbs and Hadlee made history. The tour included the chance to take a seat in the cricket viewing room and visit the changerooms graced by so many international and domestic stars. Tour ambassadors shared tales such as those around the infamous Bodyline series.
Private tours could be arranged by appointment for groups ranging from 10 to 150-plus guests and could be tailored to suit specific interests or needs. More exclusive was the tailored private journey uncovering the celebrated legends who gave Adelaide Oval its status. Highlights included:
• a curated tour of the Bradman Collection,
• walking on the hallowed turf of Adelaide Oval and taking in the beauty of 50,000+ seats looking down as a senior groundsman delivered a private tutorial on the pitch,
• the guest’s rare honour to building his/her own name plate and having it displayed it on the famous scoreboard. A printed photo of the guest in front of displayed nameplate and a Adelaide Oval premium souvenir were also included.
Bookings were essential for tours available Monday to Friday excluding event days and depending on stadium operations.
