Design (architecture, design, planning) is part of the bachelor of creative industries, one of Australia’s most industry-connected degrees, offered in the early 21st Century by the University of South Australia in Adelaide.

Other categories choices offered by the degree were:
*screen (film and television, visual effects, animation and illustration, screen studies, game design),
* communication (social and digital media, journalism and professional writing),
* cultural and creative (creative industries, cultural studies; contemporary, visual and performing arts).

From the first day, students were engaged with Adelaide creative industries relevant to their choices. In the final year of the degree, this led to a placement or project with an industry or mentoring to help students launch their own creative venture.

Among the Adelaide industry house involved in the degree were Rising Sun Pictures (animation and visual effects) and Mighty Kingdom (games design and production).   World-renowned Rising Sun Pictures created visual effects for film and television blockbusters including Game of Thrones, Gravity, X-Men, Days of Future Past, The Great Gatsby and the Harry Potter series. Mighty Kingdom, the largest independent game developer in Australia, had worked with some of the most prestigious international companies including Disney, LEGO, Australian Red Cross, Funcom, Rogue and Snapchat.

Other Adelaide creative industries and institutions involved in the degree course were: Writers SA (comic book creation, creative writing and literature), South Australian government department for innovation and skills (communication and media), Guildhouse (contemporary art studies) , Festival Adelaide (festivals), Channel 44 (film and television), Adelaide Film Festival (screen studies) and KOJO (social media).
