West Beach Parks Golf became a standard setter for South Australia's public courses, offering the 18-hole par-72 Patawalonga and the shorter par 50 (15 holes) with added benefits.

The golf courses were part of a precinct including West Beach Parks Holiday Park, South Australia largest, covering 135 hectares along 1.2 kilometres of coastline in the Adelaide suburb of West Beach. West Beach Parks Golf extras included an academy providing clinics for all standards of players, alongside a practice range and practice greens. Its TrackMan Range was the revolutionary golfing experience using fun state-of-the-art technology to help golfers refine their swing.

The pro shop had quality equipment to buy or hire and a large fleet of golf cars with GPS (global positioning system) in-car navigation systems. The public using the course also had luxury of 30 golf carts and 25 pull buggies, free parking, the ease of a flat course and championship-quality greens.

West Beach Parks Golf was also home to the Westward Ho Golf Club, offering members amenities, a bar and bistro open to the public, and an events room for up to 200 guests.

A major facelift in 1998 for the Patawalonga course saw it voted one of the best public courses in South Australia because of its championship links style layout. The mature trees and many water hazards present a real challenge to even the most competent golfers. Its large undulating greens (the average green size was 750 square metres) were surrounded by numerous bunkers.,
