MTA of South Australia trains hundreds of apprentices each year in automotive skills and the latest technology

The Motor Trade Association advanced training centre at the Adelaide suburb of Royal Park had specialised features and was abreast of latest advancements in automotive technology.

The MTA (Motor Trade Association) trained more than 900 apprentices every year at its advanced training centre at Royal Park, Adelaide, with regional centres in Wayville, Strathalbyn, Cleve and Bordertown.
As the South Australian automotive industry’s biggest training and jobs provider, the MTA offered apprenticeships in light vehicle, diesel, agricultural mobile plant, heavy commercial and motorcycle mechanic technicians and panel beating, vehicle painting, auto parts sales and automotive electricians.
Established in 1926 and called the Motor Trade Association from 1986, the MTA started its group training scheme in 1983 with just seven apprentices. In the 21st Century, the MTA’s registered training organisation delivered accredited and non-accredited training for automotive trades in South Australia and the Northern Territory. Its quality industry-developed training was modern and responsive to industry needs in pre employment, apprentice training and upskilling industry and employees.
The advanced training centre at Royal Park had specialised features including a 10-bay welding area, paint shop, a 15-metre truck pit, eight overhead vehicle hoists, an all-wheel-drive dynamometer, a four-bay drivein to repair and maintain semis and b-double trailers, additional training areas form expanding post-trade training including hybrid and electrical vehicles. All materials, resources and training aids were up with the latest advancements in technology.
Most MTA professional development training also was available online via live webinars or flexible online recordings.
MTA industry partnerships with manufacturers, including Fiat/Chrysler, Holden, KIA Motors and Subaru, made available vehicles, engines and expertise plus original equipment manufacturer information, specifications and the latest innovations found on new vehicle designs. MTA training also was supported by partners: Axalta, Capricorn Society Limited, PPG, I-CAR, MTAA Super, Lowbake Australia, Blackwoods, SP Tools and 3M.
