FIVEaa (formerly 5AA), as Adelaide's only commercial talkback radio station, entered 2020 with a back-to-the-future move, with Tony “Pilko” Pilkington coming out of returment to do the afternoon program.

This coincided with Jane Reilly, after 44 years working in Adelaide television and radio, ending her seven years as contributor to FIVEaa's David & Will (David Penberthy and Will Goodings) breakfast show. Penberthy and Goodings were resuming their rivalry for No.1 rating with ABC Radio Adelaide’s breakfast since being taken over by Ali Clarke. Another Adelaide radio stalwart, Leon Byner, held the morning spot.

Along with its coverage of current affairs, politics, social issues – plus entertainment, lifestyle, gardening, travel and health on weekends – FIVEaa also has been strong on sports coverage. The Rowey & Bicks Drive Sports Show (David Rowe and Mark Bickley) had a new anchor in 2020 with Jarrod Walsh making the move from Nova 91.9.

FIVEaa and Nova 91.9 are sister stations owned by Nova Entertainment, in turn owned by Lachlan Murdoch’s Illyria company.

FIVEaa is also the AM broadcaster in Adelaide for all Australian Football League (AFL) games involving the Adelaide-based teams Adelaide and Port Adelaide, while taking games involving interstate teams from affiliate stations such as 3AW in Melbourne and 6PR in Perth. FIVEaa also broadcasts select South Australian National Football League (SANFL) matches and, during the A League soccer season, occasionally covers Adelaide United home games.

Its weekday sports coverage featured champion AFL footballers and coaches Malcolm Blight and Graham Cornes, although Cornes’ Conversations program covers wider interests than sport.
