'Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS)' third series set in South Australia, with Flinders Ranges to be featured
Award-winning Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) television series lead cast members would be seen in South Australian settings in the third series being filmed in the state.

South Australia in 2024 became the setting for the third season of Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) award-winning television series.

The South Australian version of the series featured the picturesque Flinders Ranges as well as using the South Australian Film Corporation’s Adelaide Studios, the RFDS base in Port Augusta, and the town of Quorn as settings. The series had previously been filmed in Broken Hill, where the airport, runway and RFDS base wer undergoing works.

South Australia’s Lisa Scott of Highview Productions was producer for the third series of Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) with a predominately South Australian crew and 10 South Australian heads of department. Winner of the 2024 TV Week Logie award for best drama programme, Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) had its lead cast, including Emma Hamilton, Stephen Peacocke, Justine Clarke, Ash Ricardo, Emma Harvie, Rodney Afif, Jack Scott, Sofia Nolan, Thomas Weatherall and Rob Collins, return for the South Australian series.

Produced by Endemol Shine Australia (a Banijay Entertainment Company) for Seven Network, major production investment came from Screen Australia, Seven Network and the South Australian Film Corporation via the South Australian government. More than two thirds of the $10 million budget was expected to be spent on local suppliers and service providers from sectors such as transport, hospitality, retail, and construction plus more than 450 job opportunities across roles, including positions for cast, crew and extras.

South Australian Film Corporation chief executive Kate Croser highlighted the production’s significance to the state: “We are thrilled to welcome Endemol Shine to South Australia for the first time with this Australian drama series, strengthening our state’s international reputation as the premier location for Australian stories on screen.”

Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) third series was expected to premiere in Australia nationally on Channel 7 and 7plus in 2025.
